Arlington's First Annual Tech-E Award Winners Announced!
The Arlington e-Council held its first Annual Tech-E Awards Ceremony
on Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at the Sheraton National Hotel. The e-Council
is a sub-committee of the Arlington Chamber and a joint effort by the
Arlington County Chamber of Commerce and Arlington Economic Development.
Winners of the Tech-E award were chosen from fifteen finalists in five
categories:
- Technology Executive of the Year: Panos Anastassiadis, CEO, Cyveillance
- Technology Company of the Year: InterImage, Leslie Steel, President
- Innovator of the Year: Veridian/VeriTracks Development Team
- Corporate Citizen of the Year: Booz Allen Hamilton
- Technology Young Mind & Scholarship: Donald Oellerich, Yorktown High School
The ceremony's presenters included Eric Koefoot, Vice President, Washingtonpost.Newsweek
Interactive; Scott Laughlin, Executive Vice President, LM&O; Alex Orfinger,
Publisher, The Washington Business Journal; The Honorable Mary Margaret
Whipple; Randy Anderson, Chairman, Arlington Chamber of Commerce. The
Tech-E Award recognizes outstanding businesses and people in Arlington's
high-tech industry, and is awarded by the Arlington e-Council. The Arlington
e-Council began as a grassroots effort three years ago, to provide a forum
for Arlington's high-tech companies to network and share ideas. Since

Virginia State Portal Ranked No. 1 in Country
The California-based Center for Digital Government has ranked the state
of Virginia's official Web site as the nation's best government Internet
portal. VIPNet.org, known as "My Virginia," was cited for its range
of services, including online driver's license renewal and real-time

Comso, Inc. Renews Lease
Comso, Inc., a leading-edge software solutions provider recently renewed
the lease for its offices located at 2111 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington.
The Ezra Company, a commercial real estate firm specializing in tenant
representation, negotiated the deal for the 7,052 square-foot space.
Comso provides services such as software engineering and application
development, decision support and data warehouse technology and enterprise

Veridian Wins $11.18 Million Deal to Connect DC-Area Installations
Arlington-based Veridian, a provider of computer systems and software
to the intelligence community and military, announced on Friday that
it has landed an $11.18 million order to install and integrate a new
data network for the Military District of Washington DC. The company
will perform the work for Fort Belvoir, Fort Meyer and Fort McNair.
"Our work will support increased connectivity among these three Army
installations," said Scott Goss, president of Veridian's IT Services
Division.

Rosettex Technology & Ventures Wins $24 Million Army Deal
Arlington-based Rosettex Technology & Ventures Group, a joint venture
of SRI International and Sarnoff Corp., said on Monday that it has won
a five-year deal worth up to $24 million to develop advanced technologies
and communications, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems
for the U.S. Army at Fort Monmouth, N.J. Initial projects will include
"satellite-on-the-move" communications, mobile wireless networking and
visualization technology. Over time, the technologies developed are

GAO Denies Protest of Lucrative Veridian Deal with Navy
Arlington-based Veridian, a provider of systems and software to the
national security and intelligence sectors, said on Friday that a protest
of its $154 million Navy contract by Chantilly-based EER has been denied
by the General Accounting Office (GAO). Veridian was awarded the deal
with the Naval Air Systems Command Weapons Division in early July. However,
two unsuccessful bidders -- EER and McLean-based SAIC - then protested

Investments in New VC Funds Down Sharply in Third Quarter
The Arlington-based National Venture Capital Association reported on
Monday that during the third quarter of 2002, just 33 venture capital
funds were raised, totaling $1.7 billion. The latest fund-raising figure
is down from the second quarter, when venture capitalists raised $2.1
billion through 36 funds. The level of new funds has been largely stagnant
for some time. An estimated $90 billion in capital is reportedly committed
to venture funds, which is making it difficult for new funds to attract

CACI Wins $52 Million Contract
Arlington-based CACI International has won a $52 million contract to
help the Army National Guard with its Distributed Learning and Training
Technology program. CACI will further the Guard's move toward its goal
of offering training and education services to all personnel - anywhere,
anytime - by 2010. CACI is expanding its reach into the distance learning
niche, one of the strong suits of CONDOR Technology's Government Solution
Division, which CACI acquired in August. The Army National Guard's distributed
Learning and Training program reaches 350,000 soldiers.
