- The 464-unit garden-style apartment complex was purchased by AHC Inc. (www.ahcinc.org) in December 2002 with multimillion dollar loan guarantee by Arlington County in
order to preserve apartments as affordable rental housing. more

- The $35 million renovation of 17-acre property began in 2005 and will be completed in August 2007. Renovation includes new roofs, windows, kitchens, bathrooms, heating
and air conditioning, and carpeting.
- Large on-site community center with fitness center, computer lab, meeting space and resident services to be built in 2008.
- The property includes 348 affordable apartments, 116 market-rate units, and 19 market-rate condominiums.
- Renovation Design is by Collins & Kronstadt LLP; Construction by
Harkins Builders Inc.
- Developed by AHC Inc., a private, nonprofit developer of low- and moderate-income housing. Founded in 1975,
AHC produces and preserves affordable rental housing; provides home-ownership opportunities; offers housing rehabilitation services; and coordinates social services to
improve the quality of residents’ lives. AHC owns and operates 27 rental properties, providing 3,253 apartments, including 2,585 that are affordable to more than 6,000
low- and moderate-income residents. Other Arlington projects include Gates of Ballston, Harvey Hall Apartments and Woodbury North.
AHC won the 2007 “Nonprofit Developer of the Year” award from the Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers (HAND).
- The project represents a major investment by Arlington County in partnership with AHC Inc. to preserve affordable rental housing in the heart of Arlington. The County's
continuing commitment to Buckingham Village was illustrated with the Board's June 9, 2007 approval of components of the Buckingham Villages Preservation Plan.
