Crystal City Unveils Art Walls

Washington-based artist Anne Marchand was commissioned by the Crystal City BID to add a colorful mural to the Route 1 Overpass along 18th Street. The piece, titled Prism, will welcome pedestrians and cars entering and exiting the Crystal City Neighborhood along 18th Street.

The design is painted on thirty five concrete panels sized 4 feet x 9 feet 4 inches, spanning the length of the 160 foot wall. The design phase of the project began in July and the fabrication is taking place in September and October 2008. The mural will be created in vibrant hues that reflect a theme of light and color.

Crystal City BID director Angie Fox knows a lot about Crystal City's walls. "We've heard those comments about our blank, concrete walls. But instead of being limited by them, we see opportunity. We're surrounded by blank canvases, and we're looking forward to filling these spaces with beautiful, bold works of art."

Artist Anne Marchand works from her studio in Washington, DC. Her art focuses on universal connections of energy that link the planet as a whole system for life. Visit her Web site at www.annemarchand.com.
