Arlington High Technology Conference Center

Arlington County began studies of the feasibility of this facility in 1998 through the urgings of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Commission. The concept of engaging in an additional facet of the meetings market and using the facility to act as an economic development catalyst in Arlington were the primary goals.

After the overall feasibility was confirmed through consultant studies, the financing of the project was discussed. The hotel community agreed to the additional taxing of 2% Transient Occupancy Tax and the Virginia General Assembly passed legislation enabling the County Board to levy this tax when appropriate. The Tax will be used for the construction, operation, and debt service on the facility.

Site analysis was done by several architectural organizations and a preferred site emerged. While other qualified sites remain, the County is pursuing the preferred site at this time.

The Conference Center program is recommended to be 50,000 sf of exhibit space, a 30,000 sf ballroom and 24,000 sf of additional small and medium size meeting rooms. This would be in addition to pre-function space, circulation space and support areas.

Retail, entertainment, cultural aspects, and public spaces are envisioned in the overall complex that will grow around the Conference Center.
